Believe it or not, there are many free things to do with kids in Orlando. If you are looking to have fun with your family but not spend any money, take a look at some of your best options.
Free Water Pads
Let’s face it, Orlando is hot. In the Fall and Winter, it is very pleasant but during the dog days of Summer, you need to find a way to cool down.
For kids, nothing beats a good splash pad. They are fun for kids of all ages and can be enjoyed by those who do not even know how to swim. For parents this is a huge burden off of your shoulders. You can just sit in the shade and relax while your kids play, without the threat of deep water.
Going to a splash pad might just be the perfect activity for kids and parents alike. Combine running, sun and water and what do you get? Tired kids who will likely leave their parents alone the rest of the day. They might even, dare we say it, take a nap afterwards.
Free Orlando Playgrounds
People love to be outside in Orlando, even when it gets hot. Because of this fact, the city of Orlando and nearby cities have built some fantastic and intricate outdoor playgrounds. This makes playgrounds one of the best things to do with kids for free in Orlando.
Even better is the fact that most of them are well shaded. Trees grow so fast in The City Beautiful that it does not take long for a thick canopy to develop over playgrounds. Those without dense tree coverage, generally have wind sails installed.
What this means for you is that you can take the kids out to the playground, for free and not worry about sweating to death in the Central Florida sun.
Free City Events
When looking for free stuff to do, why not look to the City of Orlando themselves. Orlando and neighboring cities are always hosting free events like concerts, movie nights and craft fairs. And, since cities tend to be family oriented, most of these events will be kid friendly.
Free city events are more common around the holiday, but you can usually find fun things to do each month. Also, keep in mind that you typically do not have to live in a city to enjoy free events. Most cities are not checking ID’s at the gate, so if you are in Orlando, don’t hesitate to check out events in Winter Springs or Altamonte Springs.

Free Orlando Theme Park Activities
Not everything at the theme parks if expensive. If you want to get a taste of Disney or Universal springs, there is a free option.
Disney Springs, formerly Downtown Disney is a great place to take kids, especially around the holiday season. Although the area is mainly a shoppers paradise, there are plenty of free attractions to take in such as live bands, fountains, art, etc. Admission and parking at Disney Springs is always free.
Just like at Disney Springs, there is plenty to do at Universal CityWalk that does not cost a lot. It is a fun place to take the kids without the huge expense of getting into the theme park. The only catch is that parking is only free after 6PM. Before that time, it will cost you $26, so it pays to wait until the evening.
